CodersTrust Chairman Aziz Ahmad Highlights the Growing Impact of AI on Young Workers
CodersTrust Chairman Aziz Ahmad has warned that artificial intelligence could seriously affect jobs for young people in Bangladesh, especially those doing routine online and office work.
In his new article, “The Father, the Godfather, and the Jobs of Our Children,” Mr. Ahmad says AI will not always arrive with a big announcement. Instead, it will slowly become part of the software that companies already use. By then, many jobs may already have changed.
Jobs That May Be at Risk
Mr. Ahmad says jobs based on simple and repeated computer work are most at risk. These include call-center jobs, data entry, back-office work, basic graphic design, content writing, and entry-level freelancing.
He explains that one worker using AI may now be able to do work that once needed several people.
This matters for Bangladesh because many young people work in freelancing and digital services. Mr. Ahmad writes that Bangladesh has around 650,000 registered freelancers, and most of them are highly educated. He says this group is highly exposed to AI tools.
Youth Unemployment Is Already a Challenge
Bangladesh already faces a tough job market. According to figures shared in the article, 2.62 million people were unemployed in 2024, and 2.03 million of them were between 15 and 29 years old.
The article also says around 885,000 unemployed people are university graduates. This shows that a degree alone does not guarantee a job.
Mr. Ahmad also warns that factory jobs are not fully safe. He cites an estimate that about 1.22 million ready-made garment jobs could be at risk from automation by 2041.
Training Should Create Jobs
Mr. Ahmad believes training programs should be judged by whether young people actually find work and earn money, not just by how many students receive certificates.
He says CodersTrust has trained more than 130,000 young people, and over 70% have gone on to earn through jobs, freelancing, or their own businesses.
According to Mr. Ahmad, a recent survey of CodersTrust graduates found that employment rose from 47.4% before training to 77.9% after training. Median monthly income also increased from $82 to $245.
Advice for Young People
Mr. Ahmad’s main message is simple. Young people should not try to compete with AI in tasks that AI can do cheaply. Instead, they should learn how to use and guide AI.
He also encourages young people to build skills that AI cannot easily copy, such as problem-solving, client communication, technical work, and hands-on skills.
“Do not compete with AI at what it does cheaply. Learn to direct it,” Mr. Ahmad writes.
